"A Miner's Dream Becomes Reality - Turning Dirt to Gold"

Philipp Englin, World Steel Dynamics,
Manager -
Special Projects

"Turning Dirt to Gold" is, in World Steel Dynamic's (WSD's) opinion, a fair description of the "Miner's dream come true" for the global iron ore and coking coal industries since 2003. Philipp Englin of WSD will shed light on the drivers behind this dream-to-reality massive rally in the prices for iron ore, coking coal, and other steelmakers' raw materials, and the consequences of this global phenomenon on the North American marketplace. Philipp will address questions such as: Will global steel production (outside of China) ever return to its pre-crisis peak? Can China's massive appetite for iron ore ever be satisfied? Is North America primed to become a major exporter of coking coal and iron ore to the global markets? The answers to these questions, and others, will play a pivotal role in understanding whether the miner's newfound reality will have durability.

World Steel Dynamics is a "Strategic Information Service" providing critical and new perspectives on possible and probable steel industry developments. WSD regularly analyzes and publishes reports on steel prices, steelmakers' costs, steel supply/demand and steel finances. WSD's steel experience, steel database and availability of steel statistics are unmatched. The WSD international client list includes major integrated and non-integrated steel companies, steel users, equipment and raw material suppliers, financial institutions, money managers, government agencies, metal traders, steel service centers and trade associations.
